Upload to the Media Library

Images and documents on the website must first be uploaded to the Media Library.

Before uploading images to the media library, they must be optimized for web (i.e. their size must be reduced). For example, use tinyjpg.com.

If you need to resize the image, you can use Photoshop (if installed on your computer) or the online tool www.befunky.com.

URLs on images

The file name of the image helps Google know what the image is about. Therefore, use keywords in the file name.

  • Good example: research-facility-nanolab-dtu.jpg
  • Not so good example: nanolab web edition_1920x1080px.jpg

File format:

  • Images are saved as .jpg
  • Graphics are saved as .png

Max size of files in the media library

Please note that files can have a maximum size of 30 MB. Larger files cannot be uploaded in the media library. (This also applies if you upload multiple files at the same time - the files must not exceed 30 MB in total).

In the video you get a short introduction to the media library.

Below you can read more about how the media library works.

Open the Media Library

Click on Media Library in the lower left corner next to Content Editor. Or Click on the red icon in the lower left corner and choose Media Library

The media library is built up in a folder structure that corresponds to the structure in content editing.

Upload file to media library

Find the folder you want to upload your file to via the structure on the left.

Make sure you have clicked on the folder so it is highlighted.

Be aware of saving your files in a systematic and logical folder structure, so that you and others can easily find the files.

You can create a new folder for the media library by clicking New Folder.

Upload your file by clicking Upload file or upload multiple files at once by clicking Upload files (advanced)

Select “Vælg fil” - the File explorer on your computer opens.

Find the desired file, double-click, and then click Upload

Fill in the Copyright text field - here you need to enter the photographer's name or the name of the copyright holder.

Fill in the Alt text field. The text

  • must have the same meaning as the image. This means that if users cannot see the image, they will get the important information in the alternative text.
  • is read by screen readers, which are used by visually impaired users. Google also uses the Alt text to understand the content of the image and the page the image is on.
  • does not need to be filled in if the image is purely decorative i.e. it is not important for understanding the content of the page.
  • must be short and should not exceed 255 characters.
  • does not need to include "image of" as screen readers provide this information automatically.

You will now see the "Breaking Links" dialog.

Here you select the second point, "Link to another item".

Navigate through the file structure to the new file and select it.
