Edit and move modules

Edit a module

You can edit modules both Frontend in the Experience Editor and Backend in the Content Editor

Frontend editing of modules

Make sure you are in the Experience Editor.

Click on the module you would like to edit and then select the pencil icon in the toolbar.

You can now edit your module.

See how to edit the different types of modules under Module types.

Backend editing of modules

All modules are also available in Sitecore's backend.

Modules created under a given page are located in the Webpage modules (2020) folder (the folder is automatically created by Sitecore when you insert a module on a page.)

First, find your module in the folder Webpage modules (2020)

You can then edit the content of your module by editing the corresponding fields.

Move module

To move a module, you must be in the Experience Editor.

Click on the module you would like to move and then select the move icon in the toolbar.

You can now move your module to one of the cells marked with Move to here.

Move your module to the desired cell by clicking on the corresponding Move to here label.

NB: Note that there are restrictions on which modules can be used in which widths. You can therefore only move your module to a cell with a width compatible with your module. For an overview of module types and their possible widths, see Module types

Edit a module's size

You can change the size of a module by moving the module from a cell with one width to a cell with a different width.

For example, if you move a spot module from a cell 6 columns wide to a cell 3 columns wide, the spot module will be correspondingly narrower.

NB: Note that there are restrictions on which modules can be used in which widths. You can therefore only move your module to a cell with a width compatible with your module. For an overview of module types and their possible widths see Module types

Delete module

If you want to delete a module, you should first delete it in the Experience Editor. If you are sure that you will not use the module again, you can subsequently delete it in Sitecore's backend.

You delete a module in the frontend editing by selecting the module and then clicking the delete icon in the toolbar.

Please note that the module has now only been removed from the page. The module will continue to be in the Webside moduler (2020) folder.

To delete a module entirely from Sitecore, delete it from Sitecore backend.

Find the module you want to delete in Sitecore – almost all modules created on a page are stored in the Webside moduler (2020) folder under that page.

Right-click the module and select Delete.

Click OK. Or select the module and select the Delete icon in the home tab.

The module is now deleted.

Tips and Tricks

It can happen that you lose track of which modules are in use on a page and where you have saved them in the folder structure in Sitecore.

Here, the function Edit the related item can be of help.

In the Experience editor, you can click on a module and then click on the component icon.

Below that, select Edit the related item.

Now Sitecore's content editor opens in the top half of your screen and the module you selected is highlighted.

You can then edit or move the module to the desired location in Sitecore's folder structure.

Once you've made your changes, click Save/Close icon.
